2023 Caf WCL: Wafu Zone-B qualifying tourney rescheduled for August 18 start

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has announced a shift in date for this year’s West Africa Football Union (Wafu) Zone-B Caf Women’s Champions League.

Originally scheduled for September 10–25, 2023, the third edition of the qualifying championship will now be held earlier from August 18–September 3 in Cote d’Ivoire.

“The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has amended the dates for the 2023 Women’s Champions League.

“The qualifying edition which was originally scheduled for September 10-25 will now take place in Cote d’Ivoire from Friday, August 18 to Sunday, September 3, 2023,” a communiqué shared by the Ghana FA indicated.

“The seven Wafu Zone-B Associations are expected to present their national champions to compete for a slot in the Women’s Champions League. The countries include Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, and host Cote d’Ivoire,” it added.

The maiden edition in 2021 saw Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana clinch the trophy, while Ampem Dakoa Ladies, also from Ghana, lost to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens in the 2022 final. The Wafu Zone-B winners went on to earn third place at the main championship event held in Morocco.
