2022/23 Caf CC: ASEC to play USM Algers, Yanga faces Marumo in semifinals

Asec Mimosas, Young Africans, USM Alger and Marumo Gallants are the four teams for the 2022/23 Caf Confederation Cup semifinals.

Sunday’s quarterfinal games provided goals and shocks with Egyptian side Pyramids crashing out of the Africa’s second tier competition.

Marumo Gallants, after drawing goalless against Pyramids in the first leg won 1-0 in South Africa with a 39th minute strike from Celimpelo Ngema.

Asec Mimosas also won 2-0 in Ivory Coast from the 0-0 draw in Tunisia against US Monastir.

Frank Zouzou broke the deadlock in first half additional time and Pacome Zouzoua extended the lead in the 91st minute(added time).

Algerian giants, USM Alger equalized twice against FAR Rabat in the 3-2 defeat.

Despite the loss, USMA qualified due to the 2-0 victory in the first leg. Oussama Chita’s own goal in the 8th minute was cancelled by Saadi Redouani’s12th minute goal.

FAR took the lead again after 60 minutes of play though Diney Borges but Khaled Bousseliou restored parity again.

The hosts led again in the 97th minute with the goal from Mohamed Hrimat but that was not enough for the Moroccans.

In the last quarterfinal game, Young Africans utilized their first leg 2-0 triumph in Nigeria by drawing 0-0 against Rivers United at home.

This is the first ever semi finals for the Tanzanian giants.

The semi finals will be keenly contested with Asec Mimosas battling USM Alger while Marumo Gallants play Yanga.
