VIDEO: Kotoko beat Bechem, trim gap to leaders Aduana to 5 points

Asante Kotoko displaced Bechem United from second place after beating them 1-0 in their 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 19 clash on Wednesday.

The champions went into the game at Baba Yara Sports Stadium needing to halt a two-game winless streak and build confidence ahead of the weekend’s Super Clash with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in Accra.

Early dominance was made to count by versatile midfielder Enoch Morrison who brilliantly struck into the first post to beat goalkeeper Aziz Dari Haruna in the 21st minute after receiving a pass from Georges Mfegue. Watch goal:

Kotoko’s tactics were able to limit the expected threat of the visitors who struggled to hit a shot on target.

Coach Seydou Zerbo’s men could have recorded a heavy scoreline but for a lack of efficiency on the part of forward Mfegue. Three times during both halves, the Cameroonian failed to match the assist efforts of his partner Steven Mukwala due to his inability to convert the glaring chances presented to him.

Kotoko saw out the rest of the game with a 1-0 advantage and took the crucial three points.

On 31 points, the Porcupine Warriors are now 5 points behind leaders Aduana FC who were held to a goalless draw at home by King Faisal. Bechem United – who had started the day in second place – now drop to fourth with 30 points.

Kotoko’s Morrison won the man-of-the-match award.
