Legon Cities beat King Faisal 3-1 on return to El-Wak

Legon Cities ended a run of six games without victory by beating King Faisal 3-1 on match-day 16 of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) Sunday afternoon.

Captain Jonah Attuquaye marked his return from participating in the just-ended CHAN 2022 tournament with Ghana by putting the hosts – who were also back at the El-Wak Stadium – ahead as early as the 5th minute.

Faisal came close to equalising in the 30th minute but were denied by the agile Sylvester Sackey between the posts for the hosts.

Kwaku Hammond – who came on as part of a 3-man substitution 5 minutes into the second half – doubled the lead in the 81st minute.

New signing Benjamin Bature pulled one back for Faisal in the 86th minute after coming off the bench.

But Nasiru Moro ensured the game was decided by scoring to make it 3-1 a minute from regulation time.

Legon Cities leapfrog to 11th in the standings with 21 points while King Faisal – after their third straight defeat – sit in the relegation zone – 16th.

Royals centre-back Sulemana Mohammed – who came up against his Kumasi neighbourhood club – won the man-of-the-match award.
