Andre Ayew set for free transfer to Everton?

Ghana captain Andre Ayew could be set for a return to the Premier League.

Reports claim the former Swansea City and West Ham forward is set to fly to the UK within the next 24 hours ahead of a potential move to Everton.

Ayew had five months left on his two-year contract signed in July 2021 with Al Sadd.

The 33-year-old was also five games away from triggering a 12-month extension option, but the two parties on Sunday announced a mutual contract termination.

It has now emerged that the two parties reached a compromise for Ayew to be paid the remainder of his existing contract, meaning he will pocket £2.5m in a “golden handshake” agreement to become a free agent.

Now free to explore a potential return to European football, UK newspaper Daily Mail is reporting that he will land in the UK within the next day.

Everton are keen to tie him down to a short deal until the end of the season.

The Toffees’ chiefs are understood to have held preliminary conversations with Ayew over a possible deal as they look to back new manager Sean Dyche.

But the Merseyside club are not the only British side being linked with the forward.

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper coached Ayew for two years at Swansea and could yet attempt to swoop in and take him to the City Ground.

Andre Ayew, whose brother Jordan plays for Crystal Palace, scored nine goals in 55 Premier League games during his stints at West Ham and Swansea.
