Leicester City sign then loan out Nathan Opoku to OH Leuven

Premier League side Leicester City have signed US-based Ghanaian striker Nathan Opoku on a three-year deal on winter transfer deadline day.

Since leaving Manchester City for the States, Opoku has impressed playing for Syracuse University where he scored 11 goals and provided eight assists last season in 25 appearances for the US club.

His goals helped Syracuse become National Collegiate Athletic Association champions in December and he opened the scoring in the final, which they won on penalties.

Syracuse spotted Opoku’s talent after he scored 19 goals in 19 games for Lindsey Wilson College.

“I am excited to announce that I am making the transition to professional soccer.

“Syracuse University welcomed me into their family, and my time here was nothing short of beautiful. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to grow as a player,” said Opoku in a farewell message ahead of his return to Europe.

Nathan Opoku joins compatriot Emmanuel Toku as the second Ghanaian to join OH Leuven in the winter transfer window.
