Two goals disallowed as Berekum Chelsea, GoldStars play to 0-0 draw

Berekum Chelsea and Bibiani GoldStars played out a 0-0 draw in the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) on New Year’s Eve.

The match-day 10 encounter at Golden City Park saw each side having a goal disallowed.

It was the visiting GoldStars who created more chances in an even first half.

The Bibires improved slightly in the second half and appeared to have broken the deadlock in the 68th minute when Kelvin Obeng rose high to head home a throw-in into the box.

But referee Gabriel Opoku Arhin blew his whistle for a foul on GoldStars’ Michael Enu who appeared to have been touched by Obeng before the free header sailed in.

Nine minutes from time, it was Enu’s turn to score for GoldStars. But it was bizarrely disallowed by referee Arhin. It was a perfectly executed header from a corner kick with no infringement whatsoever by the centre-back or any other player.

Bibiani GoldStars’ Emmanuel Odai received the man-of-the-match award.

Berekum Chelsea move one spot down to 11th position on 13 points while Bibiani GoldStars are in 3rd with 17 points after 10 games in the 2022/23 GPL.
