Samuel Boadu handed promotion as Black Satellites head coach

Samuel Boadu has been handed a promotion from the role of an assistant to become the head coach of the Ghana national Under-20 team, the Black Satellites.

The former Hearts of Oak trainer first joined the Satellites bench under Karim Zito in April 2021 but he could not join the team for key assignments like the Wafu U-20 Afcon qualifiers and the 2022 Toulon Tournament which the team failed due to his busy schedule at club level.

Rumours of Boadu – who recently guided Hearts of Oak to a first double in two decades – taking over the job following his departure from the Phobians have now been confirmed by the Ghana Football Association in a reshuffle that sees coach Karim Zito dropping a level down to the Ghana U-17s job, a position he previously handled.

In the latest appointment which spans one year, Boadu and his charges will guide Team Ghana for the football tournament at the 2023 African Games slated for Accra in August next year.

Boadu will be assisted by Desmond Offei, a 35-year-old Uefa A (Level 4) Licensed Professional football coach.

Offei is a former U-18 Head Coach and U-21 coach at Royal Antwerp FC. He also worked as head coach of Lokeren U-21s and Lusitano SAD.

Salifu Fatawu – a former FC Tanga and Swedru All Blacks coach who previously worked under Karim Zito to win gold in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania in 2021 – keeps his role as one of two assistants to Boadu.

One of the fresh faces in the new-look Satellites backroom is former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda. The 37-year-old 2014 Fifa World Cup campaigner will play the role of goalkeepers’ coach.

New Black Satellites Technical Team:
Samuel Boadu – Head Coach
Desmond Offei – Assistant Coach
Salifu Fatawu – Assistant Coach
Fatau Dauda – Goalkeepers Trainer
Roy Ricky Romeo – Masseur
Opare Anim – Team Doctor
Gilbert Yankson – Physiotherapist
Emmanuel Tagoe – Welfare Officer
Charles Quartey – Equipment Officer
