Mohammed Kudus got one of the goals as Ajax Amsterdam beat Rangers FC 3-1 at Ibrox Stadium Tuesday night to wrap up their 2022/23 Uefa Champions League group stage.
Though the Dutch champions are now out of Europe’s elite club competition for this season, their third-place finish in Group A guarantees them a spot in the Round of 32 of the Europa League.
Kudus – who was returning to the Ajax starting line-up as the frontman after a couple of games out playing bit-part roles – provided the assist for Steven Berghuis to fire into the bottom of the corner for the opening goal just four minutes into the game.
Some 25 minutes later, it was the turn of the Ghanaian with a strike that deflected off of the head of Rangers defender Leon King and into the net to make it 2-0.
It is Kudus’ 4th goal in 6 Champions League group-stage matches.
In the 87th minute, James Tavernier converted a penalty to reduce the deficit for Rangers.
But Ajax restored their two-goal lead almost immediately with substitute Francisco Conceição scoring to end the game 3-1.
It was a man-of-the-match performance for Mohammed Kudus who lasted the entire duration of the game.
