Two goals in two minutes as RTU fight back to beat Kotoko [+VIDEO]

Real Tamale United (RTU) scored twice in two minutes to record a 2-1 come-from-behind win against champions Asante Kotoko to open match-day 8 of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Saturday night.

That makes it three wins on the bounce for the coach Baba Nuhu-led Pride of the North.

Georges Mfegue shot Kotoko into the lead in the 42nd minute when a poor defensive header of a Patrick Asmah throw-in by Hafiz Adams saw the ball land right in front of the forward.

And the Cameroonian followed through with a fiery non-drop low grounder into the far post – his first goal of the campaign.

The first half ended 1-0. But RTU responded not long after the break.

Midfielder David Abagna beautifully nutmegged Nicholas Mensah in the centre circle, drove forward and released the ball to Stephen Dankwah Badu who crossed from the left wing into the box for Issah Kuka to tap home in the 63rd minute.

The lanky RTU striker was clearly in an offside position but the equaliser would stand.

Then almost after the restart, Kotoko centre-back Yusif Mubarik gave away possession to Abagna and the RTU captain went ahead to put his side 2-1 up with a brilliant strike.

The 65th-minute effort proved the match-winning goal for RTU who now improve to 11 points and close the gap on Kotoko to 3.

The Porcupine Warriors have now lost twice eight matches into their title defense.
