Tamale City and Berekum Chelsea inseparable in four-goal thriller

Tamale City and Berekum Chelsea served up a 2-2 thriller in one of the three 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 6 fixtures held on Friday.

In the match played at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, City were searching for their first topflight victory while Chelsea looked to bounce back from the shock home defeat to RTU.

It took 18 minutes for the opening goal to arrive and it was the visitors who grabbed the lead through Kalou Ouattara off an assist from midfielder Collins Ameyaw.

But Raphael Essien gave Tamale City a deserved equaliser 10 minutes later.

After the break, the hosts took the lead through a quite controversial penalty awarded by referee Foster Bastious.

He penalised defender Morrison Anokye for a challenge that clearly happened outside the penalty area.

Striker Isaac Mensah converted the spot-kick to give City a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute.

While Tamale City looked like picking their first win in topflight history, in-form Mezach Afriyie emerged with his fourth goal of the campaign for the Bibires in injury time, capping off an exciting contest.

After losing their first three games, Tamale City have now also drawn their subsequent games giving them three points after match-day 6. Berekum Chelsea, meanwhile, Italy 9 points so far.
