Samartex defeat Kotoku Royals away in newcomers battle

FC Samartex 1996 recorded their first win in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) by defeating Kotoku Royals 1-0 away in a contest between two new teams.

The match-day 7 fixture had to be played over two days. Heavy rains at Cape Coast Stadium on Wednesday resulted in the game being stopped at 0-0 after 65 minutes.

Per Ghana Premier League regulations, Royals and Samartex had to play the remaining 25 minutes Thursday morning.

And Samartex scored two minutes after the restart to score. Godwin Abusah was laid with a through ball and he completed the move with a cool finish.

The 67th-minute goal was enough to hand Samartex a historic win – a first in 7 tries.

Following their 5th defeat, Kotoku Royals remain in 17th position on the league log with 4 points.

FC Samartex move up to 15th and drag King Faisal back into the relegation zone.
