King Faisal take down Kotoku Royals for first win of season

King Faisal finally posted their first win by beating newcomers Kotoku Royals 2-1 on Friday after losing their opening 5 games in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Off-season star signing Abednego Tetteh finally got off the mark for his new club by providing an assist before scoring to ensure the victory at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Tetteh set up Adom Antwi to net the opener in the 27th minute.

Faisal went into the break with that solitary goal lead.

The Insha Allah Boys – needing victory at all cost – pushed for more and were presented an opportunity to double the advantage when Tetteh got impeded in the visitors’ box.

The ex-Bechem United and Hearts of Oak striker elected himself and expertly converted the penalty in the 56th minute.

Kotoku Royals refused to go down without a fight, but they could only record a consolation goal through Emmanuel Marfo six minutes from time.

Faisal held on to win 2-1 and effectively halted their five-game losing start to the 2022/23 league campaign.

The victory means bottom-placed King Faisal close the gap with fellow strugglers Kotoku Royals who are on 4 points.

Abednego Tetteh won the man-of-the-match award.
