Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil provided an assist and later scored as leaders KRC Genk kicked off match-day 15 of the 2022/23 Belgian Jupiler Pro League with a 3-1 victory over KV Mechelen Friday night.
Genk climbed ahead after only 9 minutes through Daniel Munoz but visiting Mechelen equalised relatively fast with a thundering shot from midfielder Rob Schoofs 6 minutes after going down.
Mechelen missed the chance to take the lead for the first time before the break.
And they got punished as Genk struck their way back in front 12 minutes into the second half with Paintsil providing the assist for Gerardo Ateada to make it 2-1.
But then Genk had to play with a man down from the 64th minute as midfielder Bilal el Khannous got sent off after a second yellow card for protesting. He had received his first caution just five minutes earlier for a late tackle on a Mechelen player.
Ten-man Genk had to work hard for the three points and Paintsil ensured they would extend their winning streak to a club-record 8 games by scoring a simple strike in added time – his 6th in this league campaign. Watch goal.
Joseph Paintsil now has 10 goal contributions for Genk in the 2022/23 Jupiler Pro League, four of them have been assists.
Fit-again Paintsil scores and assists twice for Genk in 6-1 rout of Westerlo
