UCL: Kamal Sowah scores again as Club Brugge make short work of Atletico Madrid

Kamal Sowah scored for the successive Uefa Champions League game as Club Brugge beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 Tuesday night to stay perfect after three matches in Group B.

The 22-year-old yet-to-be-capped Ghana attacker and Ferran Jutgla fired the goals as the Belgian champions continued their surprise charge towards the next round.

Sowah fired the hosts ahead in the 36th minute. Ex-Barcelona man Jutgla carried the ball into the area before squaring it across goal for Sowah, who gleefully tapped it in to make it 1-0 to Brugge.

Brugge should have doubled their lead at the start of the second half but Jan Oblak made a fine save to deny Jutgla, after fine work by Canadian Tajon Buchanan, with Atletico’s defence sleeping on the job.

However, the effervescent Buchanan teed up Jutgla to finish with aplomb in the 62nd minute. The 23-year-old striker is in a rich vein of form – this was his eighth goal in 11 games across all competitions.

Antoine Griezmann, given a rare start, crashed a penalty off the crossbar after Matheus Cunha was felled in the box, then had a goal ruled out for offside as Atletico’s frustration grew.

Club Brugge have won their three opening games without conceding a goal. They top Group B, three points ahead of the other three teams after FC Porto beat Bayern Leverkusen 2-0 with second-half goals from Zaidu and Galeno.
