Ghana and holders Morocco will face off at the Algeria 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) after being grouped together along with Sudan and Madagascar.
The Black Galaxies – 2009 and 2014 runners-up – are making a return to the competition reserved for players plying their trades in their home countries after missing the last three editions.
In a live draw held at Opera d’Alger Saturday night, 18 teams, including hosts Algeria, were pooled into five groups – three groups of four and two groups of three.
Coach Annor Walker’s side found themselves placed in a tough Group C and will kick-start their campaign against Madagascar on Sunday, January 15 before taking on Sudan (third-place finishers in 2011 and 2018) in their second game four days later.
Ghana and Morocco – who have won the last two editions – will then meet in their final group match on Monday, January 23.
All three of Ghana’s group games have the same kickoff time – 20:00 GMT.
Hosts Algeria clash with 2014 winners Libya in the opening match. Ethiopia and Mozambique complete GROUP A.
Group B: DR Congo DR, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal.
Groups D: Mali, Angola, Mauritania
Group E: Cameroon, Congo, Niger
The 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament comes off from January 13 to February 4, 2023.
The opening match will see hosts Algeria face Mozambique.
