CHAN 2022: Ghana to play Morocco, Madagascar and Sudan in group stage

Ghana and holders Morocco will face off at the Algeria 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) after being grouped together along with Sudan and Madagascar.

The Black Galaxies – 2009 and 2014 runners-up – are making a return to the competition reserved for players plying their trades in their home countries after missing the last three editions.

In a live draw held at Opera d’Alger Saturday night, 18 teams, including hosts Algeria, were pooled into five groups – three groups of four and two groups of three.

Coach Annor Walker’s side found themselves placed in a tough Group C and will kick-start their campaign against Madagascar on Sunday, January 15 before taking on Sudan (third-place finishers in 2011 and 2018) in their second game four days later.

Ghana and Morocco – who have won the last two editions – will then meet in their final group match on Monday, January 23.

All three of Ghana’s group games have the same kickoff time – 20:00 GMT.

Hosts Algeria clash with 2014 winners Libya in the opening match. Ethiopia and Mozambique complete GROUP A.

Group B: DR Congo DR, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal.

Groups D: Mali, Angola, Mauritania

Group E: Cameroon, Congo, Niger

The 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament comes off from January 13 to February 4, 2023.

The opening match will see hosts Algeria face Mozambique.
