2023 U-23 AfconQ: DR Congo edge Algeria, will face Ghana in decider

DR Congo have advanced to face Ghana in a ticket-deciding tie to the fourth edition of the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) to be staged in Morocco next year.

The Central Africans chalked a 5-4 aggregate advantage despite tasting defeat to Algeria in the return leg of their second-round clash in Sétif on Sunday.

DR Congo had won the first leg 4-1 in Kinshasha a week ago.

The young Desert Foxes thus faced a tough task, needing at least three goals without response to go through.

The second leg at Sade 8 Mai 1945 was originally set for Saturday, October 29 but had to be resecheduled to Sunday due to a flight challenges faced by the visitors.

Algeria managed to score the three goals needed but could not deprive the Congolese a crucial away goal as the game ended 3-1.

For a slot at the Morocco 2023 Under-23 Afcon which would serve as a qualifying tournament for football at Paris 2024 Olympic Games, DR Congo will now battle the Black Meteors of Ghana who dispatched Mozambique 4-1 over two legs.
