2022 World Cup: Leave the technical team to choose their players – Akufo-Addo to GFA, MoYS

Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has adviced the Ghana Football Association to not interfere in the job of Black Stars coach Otto Addo.

The men’s senior national side heads to Qatar November 20 for the 2022 Fifa World Cup with high expectations of qualifying from the group stages.

Ghana plays their first game against Portugal November 24 and face Uruguay and South Korea later.

Nana Akufo-Addo hopes head coach Otto Addo will be left to do the right squad selection for the tourney.

“Having chosen the technical team, I will also implore you, leave them to do their work.

“I think the people who run football clubs know what it is required of a good coach. He takes the responsibility, if he doesn’t you know what to do with him.

“What is always a problem is minister saying, this person should play, and saying president says I should tell you x player has to play. No, we don’t want any of that,” the President said.

The Head of State also believes Otto Addo and his technical team have the quality to guide the Black Stars to a respectable World Cup finish.

“We have confidence in the team you have chosen. I think we have got a very good team.

“We have a very good set of people to guide our players.

“Lets leave it to them and their professional judgement to decide the best possible combinations for us.”

Ghana will open training camp in Abu Dhabi on November 10.
