2022/23 GPL: Legon Cities, Berekum Chelsea battle to 1-1 draw

Legon Cities were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Berekum Chelsea in a 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 4 clash at El-Wak Stadium on Sunday.

The Royals entered the game high in confidence following back-to-back wins away to Real Tamale United (RTU) and Tamale City before the league went on a 3-week break due to a court injunction.

It was barren at halftime with the hosts having the brighter of the few chances created.

Cities eventually broke the deadlock three minutes before the hour mark. New signing Alex Aso scored with a powerful left-foot strike off a Kofi Kordzi assist.

But the impressive Bibires responded through a Mezack Afriyie equaliser in the 64th minute.

Legon Cities nearly restored the lead when winger Jonah Attuquaye fed Kordzi but the visitors swiftly dealt with the danger.

The game eventually ended in a 1-1 stalemate with Cities moving their tally to 7 points and in 6th position. Berekum Chelsea, now on 8 points, also drop to 3rd position.

Sadat Mohammed of Legon Cities was adjudged man-of-the-match.
