Stade Océane in France to host Ghana vs Brazil friendly

France has been officially confirmed as the host country for the September international friendly between Ghana and five-time Fifa World Cup champions Brazil.

The two countries announced this date a fortnight ago without naming a venue.

Now after negotiations over an England or France destination, the 25,000-seat multi-purpose Stade Océane in the latter’s Normandy port city of Le Havre has been secured for the fifth confrontation between the sides.

The Black Stars – who are heading to Qatar for a 4th Fifa World Cup outing – take on the Brazilians on Friday, September 23.

This date with Brazil is the first of Ghana’s confirmed warm-up friendlies in Europe this month.

After the match in Le Havre, the Black Stars will then make a trip across the border into Spain to play Nicaragua four days later. The September 27 game comes off at Estadio Francisco Artés Carrasco based in Lorca.

Coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad anytime soon with the Black Stars expected to report to camp from September 19.

The September games will be Ghana’s penultimate dates before the World Cup kicks off on November 20.

Earlier in June, the GFA announced a pre-World Cup friendly with Switzerland to be played at Baniyas Stadium in Abu Dhabi on November 17. The match – which will be the first meeting between the two countries at the senior level – will serve as the final preparatory match for the Stars.

Ghana will open their fourth World Cup campaign seven days later – against Portugal, then South Korea on November 28 before wrapping up their matches in Group H vs 2010 nemesis Uruguay on December 2.
