Medeama win topsy-turvy five-goal thriller against RTU

Medeama SC made it two straight wins in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) by defeating Real Tamale United (RTU) 3-2 at Akoon Park on Sunday.

The visitors dominated the first 15 minutes of the game but created few chances throughout the first half.

Midfielder Kwasi Donsu scored a trademark free-kick to put Medeama ahead in the 41st minute.

RTU came back stronger in the second half but this time around more purposeful up front.

On 51 minutes, striker Issah Kuka pounced on a loose ball to score the equalizer after Kwame Boakye’s header from captain David Abagna’s free-kick and was parried into his path by Medeama goalkeeper Kofi Mensah.

Kuka went on to net his brace 7 minutes later and put RTU in a 2-1 lead. This time, he was laid through with a pass and brilliantly lobbed the ball over the Medeama goalkeeper who had moved off his line.

Parity was then restored in the 78th minute by defender Kofi Asmah who powered home a corner kick with a header, just like he did in the opening day victory away to Legon Cities.

Captain Donsu got his brace with a cool finish 3 minutes from time to complete a turnaround for the Yellow and Mauve.

The 3-2 victory means Medeama SC have maximum points from two games played while RTU are on just a point.
