Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye opened the scoring before anyone else in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) as Great Olympics defeated Bechem United in the new season’s first game Saturday afternoon.
The versatile winger was made to kick-start this campaign from the bench by new coach Yaw Preko who preferred to deploy Daniel Adrian Adjetey.
After a barren opening half, Abbey-Ashie Quaye was introduced into the game right before restart.
The game travelled until the 82nd minute for the deadlock to be broken. And it was Abbey-Ashie Quaye who was on hand with a simple close-range sweep after another substitute – Emmanuel Akesseh – powered his way through the Bechem backline.
That was just enough to give Great Olympics a good start to the 2022/23 league season – a 1-0 victory on opening day at the Accra Sports Stadium.
