2022/23 GPL: Olympics defeat Bechem 1-0 in season opener

Great Olympics started their 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) campaign with a 1-0 win over Bechem United Saturday afternoon.

The fixture was the first game of the new season with both teams putting in a strong performance at the virtually empty Accra Sports Stadium.

The first half ended in a stalemate despite Bechem United seeing much of the possession throughout the 45 minutes.

Olympics had ex-Ghana and Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu making his return to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in about 12 years.

Yaw Preko’s men came in stronger in the second half and scored the game’s only goal in the 82nd minute.

Substitute Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye benefited from a deflected shot in the Bechem United 18-yard box to score and hand the Dade Boys the full three points.

The win is a big boost for Great Olympics who next play guests to city rivals Hearts of Oak in the Mantse Derby next week Sunday.

Great Olympics left-back Abdul Bashiru was adjudged man-of-the-match.
