Kotoku Royals are the first of new entrants to bag a win on their debut after edging out a narrow 1-0 victory against Accra Lions on match-day 1 of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The Akim Oda-based side have temporarily adopted the Cape Coast Sports Stadium as home venue due to club licensing challenges with their traditional grounds.
They recorded their first victory thanks to a 19th-minute goal by burly striker Augustine Boakye on Sunday.
Boakye met a low cross in the 18-yard box of Lions with his right foot and hit past goalkeeper Dennis Votere.
His strike proved the only goal of the game but young goalkeeper Clinton played a huge role in preserving the win as he constantly kept many efforts from the dominant and wounded Lions out of goal.
Kotoku Royals are the only debutants to pick three points on the opening day of the new GPL campaign. FC Samartex drew away to RTU while Tamale City lost to Karela United. Nsoatreman had their game against Asante Kotoko postponed.
Goalkeeper Clinton was adjudged man-of-the-match.
