2022/23 GPL: Dreams start with win at Bibiani GoldStars

Dreams FC enjoyed a winning start to the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) by managing to defeat GoldStars 1-0 at Dun’s Park in Bibiani Sunday afternoon.

GoldStars, marking their second season in the history of the topflight, hoped for a bright beginning but an outstanding one-man show from Lord Bawa Martey and Dana Blessing’s second-half strike ensured the ‘Still Believe Boys’ would head back to Dawu with the three points.

The off-season goalkeeper signing repelled everything thrown at him by the dominant hosts.

Getting into their stride early in the second half, Dreams sent warning signals as Ali Huzaif forced a save out of the GoldStars keeper with a close-range effort in the 50th minute.

Soon came the breakthrough – on 56 minutes. A long-range strike from forward Dana Blessing took a deflection off Samuel Amofa and into the net.

A quick reaction saw GoldStars nearly level two minutes later but shot-stopper Bawa Martey allayed fears with a save and subsequently went into the books of referee for a trademark time wasting

The trailing GoldStars sought a way back into the game by doing most of the attacking but could not open up the visitors’ defence. In the 89th minute, the brilliant Bawa was once more on hand at full stretch to prevent an equalizer.

Dreams FC managed to hold on to the 1-0 lead through the 7 minutes of added time played for a winning start to the league campaign.
