2022/23 GPL: Aduana condemn Hearts to opening day defeat

Hearts of Oak opened their 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season with a 1-0 defeat away to Aduana FC at the Nana Agyeman Badu (NAB) I Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians conceded early in the second half via Bright Adjei’s strike from a loose ball.

Aduana kick-started the campaign with some new additions to earmark head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s return to the club.

Douglas Owusu Ansah, Yaw Ansah Fufuro, Bright Enchil and made their debut for the Fire Boys.

For Hearts, coach Samuel Boadu chose Eric Ofori Antwi as goalkeeper and Eric Esso also started.

Aduana had to wait till the 49th minute to net the game’s opener after an open first half between the two sides.

Skipper Bright Adjei, who was unmarked, connected to Sam Adams’ cross in the 18-yard box.

The home side then held on defensively and made a couple of daring runs to extend their lead in the mid-stages of the clash.

Hearts, on the other hand, were left frustrated with their lack of goals in the game.

And it was telling in the dying embers of the match when Caleb Amankwah was shown a red card in the 89th minute.

Aduana will play King Faisal in their next league game.

Hearts brace themselves for the Mantse Derby against Great Olympics.
