U-20 WWC: Princesses captain Evelyn Badu ruled out

Black Princesses captain Evelyn Badu has been ruled out of the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica due to injury.

The young midfielder sustained an ankle injury in the team’s training in Costa Rica ahead of the Group D opener against USA on Thursday.

Badu’s name was missing in the final list submitted to FIFA by the Ghana Football Association for the tournament.

Nyarko Afia has been handed the midfielder’s jersey number 10 for the tournament in Costa Rica.

Badu is in POP, as she awaits scan results on the extent of the injury.

She recently claimed two awards at the CAF Awards in Morocco; CAF Interclub Player of the year and best young female footballer of the year.

Ghana will begin their tournament against USA Thursday evening and face Japan and Netherlands in group D as well.

The Black Princesses aim to qualify from the group for the first time since playing in 2010.
