Seydou Zerdo: Burkinabè coach takes charge of Kotoko for one year with option

Ghanaian champions, Asante Kotoko have appointed Burkinabè Seydou Zerbo as new head coach for the upcoming 2022/23 season.

Nicknamed ‘Krol’, the tactician who is also called ‘firefighter’, was settled upon after the Porcupine Warriors failed to land their target in compatriot Kamou Malo.

The 59-year-old succeeds Prosper Narteh Ogum who opted to resign after leading Kotoko to the Ghana Premier League title in his first season.

“We are delighted to announce Burkinabè trainer, 𝑺𝑬𝒀𝑫𝑶𝑼 “K R O L“ 𝒁𝑬𝑹𝑩𝑶 🔥🔥🔥 as our new Head Coach for one season with an option for a further year,” Kotoko published on their socials Sunday morning.

Zerbo was coach of the local Stallions of Burkina Faso that denied Ghana qualification to the 2020 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament in Cameroon. He however lost the job after an early exit from the competition.

He will be leading the Kotoko team out of the country early Sunday for Sudan – their new pre-season destination after the earlier advertized trip to Turkey got cancelled due to visa challenges.

Seydou Zerbo has coached all the big clubs based in Burkinabè capital Ouagadougou. They include Kotoko’s immediate Caf Champions League opponents Rail Club du Kadiogo, ASFA Yennenga, Etoile Filante (EFO), AS Sonabel, Santos FC etc. He is well known for his rigour at work.
