2022/23 Caf CC prelims: Hearts on bye for AS Douanes or AS Real de Bamako

Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak will kick-start their campaign in the 2022/23 Caf Confederation Cup from the second preliminary round eliminator where they will face opponents from either Burkina Faso or Mali later in October.

In the initial draw for this season’s inter-club competitions held on Tuesday, Ghana’s Cup winners in the 2021/22 season were exempted from the first round which will see AS Douanes and AS Real de Bamako clash over two legs in September. The aggregate winner then sets up a date with coach Samuel Boadu’s side.

Hearts will be playing in the second prelims first-leg on October 7-9 while the return fixture is set to be held the following weekend.

Should the 2004 Confederation Cup winners eliminate one of AS Douanes or AS Real de Bamako , the Phobians will advance to the playoffs to slug things out with one of the teams that will drop from the Caf Champions League for a place in the group stage otherwise called ‘Money Zone.’

The playoffs are scheduled for November 2 and 9, 2022.

Hearts opened their pre-season training a couple of weeks ago and are expected to step things up with concentrated camping outside Accra in the coming days.
