Abdul Rashid Zakari: Mayniak Sportswear chief commends Kotoko’s 2022/23 kit design

Mayniak Sportswear Head, Abdul Rashid Zakari has expressed shock at the negative reaction on the kits of Asante Kotoko for the 2022/23 season.

The Reds unveiled their kits for the upcoming campaign via social media and the response from most Kotoko fans have been all positive.

King Faisal bankroller Alhaji Karim Gruzah has even described the kit style as “uncivilized” and not fit for the standards of the team’s Life Patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

But according to Zakari, who spoke on Yfm Kumasi in an interview with Dennis Ivan Opoku, Kotoko’s kit is legit and innovative.

“Top clubs across the globe have always taken inspiration from their most known people and activities to brand their kits.

“Chelsea, Manchester United have all made jerseys in the recent years from certain historic ideas about their clubs.

“Kotoko’s design is nice, it’s legit and attractive for the market. If you remember, Ajax made a third kit inspired by the Bob Marley song “three little birds.”

“This is a right plan by Kotoko and should not be seen as a negative initiative.

The kit manufacturing expert is confident Ghanaian clubs will maintain the focus on kit designs and brand positioning.

“Ghanaian clubs have been consistent with their kit designs and have been dealing with professional brands as well.

“I think they will improve a lot in all areas because in the last five years, Ghanaian clubs have been great on their brands.

Mayniak Sportswear are currently the kit partners of Ghana Premier League clubs, Great Olympics and Dreams FC.
