Ghana’s third campaign at the popular Toulon (now Maurice Revello) Tournament will not go beyond the group stage after losing 1-0 to another debutant in Indonesia Thursday afternoon.

The Black Satellites have thus lost in both games played so far in Group B of the 2022 edition currently underway in France.

In their opening game on Monday, May 30, coach Abdul Karim Zito’s boys went down to a late goal against Mexico.

And similar fate befell the superior Ghanaians against the Asians at Stade Jules Ladoumegue.

Despite their constant pressure from kickoff, Ghana were unable to complete their many clear scoring opportunities oin the first half. One of them came as early as the 8th minute when a header by Razak Abdullah came off the crossbar. He came close once more later on through a free-kick with went just over the bar.

In the second half, Ghana continued from where they left with collective movements in the Indonesian half but still could not find the key.

Carried by its supporters who came in large numbers, Indonesia will create a sensation by finally opening the scoring against the run of play in the 58th minute.

A harmless cross from the right of the field saw Ghana goalkeeper Vincent Anane clumsily drop the ball for right-back Raka Cahyana to easily give Indonesia the lead.

The stunned Satellites tried chasing the equalizer but had to wait until the 75th minute to get a real goal situation. Left alone face-to-face with the Indonesian goalkeeper, substitute Emmanuel Annor completely missed his target by shooting well above the post.

No goal will be scored until the final whistle, even if Indonesia had the opportunity to double the lead in the last minutes after another error from goalkeeper Anane.

With this second successive defeat, it is a definite goodbye for Ghana after their final group game against Venezuela.

Only the top teams in each of the 3 groups and the best second-place will advance to the next stage – the semifinal.
