Schlupp rescues a point for Crystal Palace at Villa

Ghana international Jeffrey Schlupp came off the bench to rescue a point for Crystal Palace in their 2021/22 Premier League match-day 36 visit to Aston Villa Sunday afternoon.

The pulsating stalemate means both sides keep their hopes of a top-half Premier League finish intact with two games to go.

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira opted to make Ghana duo Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp substitute options in this visit to the Villa Park.

Danny Ings passed up three opportunities for the hosts to take the lead in the first half, but Steven Gerrard’s men finally made the breakthrough against the run of play in the 69th minute through Ollie Watkins who slid in his 10th goal of the season.

However, Schlupp – who came on in the 78th minute – levelled matters three minutes after replacing Eberechi Eze – arriving at the back post to beat goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from close range.

With the 1-1 draw, Crystal Palace stay 11th with 45 points – three behind Brighton who sit just above them.

Jordan Ayew was an unused substitute for the Eagles.
