PHOTOS: Antoine Semenyo models in Ghana kit to mark debut Black Stars call-up

Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo has been called up to Ghana’s squad for the first time for four internationals next month, giving him the chance to potentially earn a spot in the selection to the 2022 Fifa World Cup later in the year.

The London-born is of Ghanaian descent and one of four newcomers in an expansive 33-man squad, released by the Ghana Football Association on Thursday.

His father is Larry Semenyo, an ex-footballer who played as a midfielder in the Ghana Premier League with Okwahu United and also Advance Stars FC then in Winneba.

Antoine had a great season in front of goal for Bristol City. Despite going out injured for more than a dozen games at the start of the just-ended 2021/22 campaign, the 22-year-old made 20 goal contributions, with 8 goals and 12 assists.

Bristol City shared photos of the excited striker beautifully clad in Ghana’s current away shirts:

In the opening half of June, Ghana are scheduled to play two games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers and then head to Japan to take part in the four-nation Kirin Cup tournament.

Ghana take on Madagascar at Cape Coast in their opening Afcon Group E qualifier on June 1, followed by an away fixture against the Central African Republic in Luanda, Angola on June 5.

The Black Stars then take on Japan in Kobe on June 10 and either Chile or Tunisia in Osaka on June 14.

At the World Cup in Qatar in November, Ghana have been drawn in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
