Paul Tandoh: Hearts Team Manager banned over referee abuse

Hearts of Oak Team Manager, Paul Tandoh has been banned for subjecting a referee to abuse during a match in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The former Warrant Officer is to serve a one-match suspension for the incident that occurred during the Phobians’ 2-1 match-day 19 win against WAFA SC at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 9.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) found Tandoh guilty of using abusive language against referee Philip Arthur Forson and also refusing to leave the inner perimeter when ordered to do so.

In his defence statement, Tandoh denied using abusive language against the referee, insisting that he was instead complaining about a red card awarded to one of his side’s players.

He also rejected claims that he refused to leave the inner perimeter, stating that he was only “walking over to the goalkeeper’s trainer to hand over his records book.”

After reviewing the footage, however, the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee found Tandoh guilty and handed him a one-match ban and also fined him GHS2,000.

In a related development, Real Tamale United head coach, Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko escaped punishment with a warning over the match-day 21 fan violence that saw his team suffer ban from the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

He had been charged for throwing “a blow at the centre referee (Emmanuel Quansah) while he was being manhandled by supporters of your club” after a 1-1 draw with Aduana FC. But the video of the match was not conclusive whether the coach was protecting the referee or attacking the referee, hence the warning.
