Hearts suspend striker Kofi Kordzi

Hearts of Oak have barred out-of-favour striker Kofi Kordzi from the club’s first team.

The 27-year-old has been sanctioned in the wake of his participation in an unauthorized community football competition.

In an announcement Tuesday, the club said his action was in “violation of his contract”.

On Saturday, May 14, Kordzi was spotted playing in the 2022 Ramadan Cup on the same day the club was involved in an MTN FA Cup semifinal game against Dreams FC.

Kordzi apparently did not make the cut for the match-day squad but failed to at least seek permission from his employers over the football gala participation.

He is expected to spend the next fortnight with the club’s juniors.

“Following the violation of his contract, the management of Accra Hearts of Oak has with immediate effect suspended striker Kofi Kordzi for a period of two weeks.

“…as part of the sanctions, the player is expected to train with the junior team, Auroras…” read a statement Wednesday. Full statement below:

Until recently, Kofi Kordzi had been Hearts of Oak’s top scorer in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) with 7 goals.

Despite his returns, he lost his starting place in coach Samuel Boadu’s squad which has seen his game minutes limited to 979 minutes in 20 league appearances.
