Ghana call my agent every day but my heart is with Belgium – Francis Amuzu

RSC Anderlecht winger Francis Amuzu has all but ruled out any chance of committing his international future to Ghana ahead of Belgium.

Born to former Hearts of Oak and 1999 Ghana U-20 midfielder Theophilus Amuzu, the 22-year-old moved to Belgium at an early age and honed his skills.

Despite representing the Europeans at the U-19 and 21 levels, Ghana have been keen on convincing the pacy winger to commit to the country of his birth.

“They [Ghana] call my agent every day, but I keep it off,” Amuzu told Het Nieuwsblad in an interview.

Francis is determined to play for the Belgium senior national team which he believes has better prospects.

“I would like to be a Red Devil. But I am aware that four good matches are not enough. I have to prove my worth in the long run. If I play 20 more games like my last four, I’ll have my place with the Devils,” he told La Dernière Heure in a separate interview.

Elaborating on his preference for Belgium, Francis explained to Het Nieuwsblad:

“Look, I was born in Ghana and when I’m there, I feel at home there because of the African atmosphere.

“My sporty heart lies with Belgium. With Belgium, you can go very far at the World Cup. [But] with Ghana, there is a real chance that you will be out quickly.”
