GFA to announce a new date in due course

The final fixture for match-day 29 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) between AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko has been postponed indefinitely.

What is the second installment of the Ashanti derby this season was due to come off at the Len Clay Stadium on Thursday, May 19.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that the Ghana Premier League Match Day 29 fixture between AshantiGold SC and Asante Kotoko has been postponed indefinitely.

“The decision follows an intelligence report and advice from the Ghana Police Service.

“The Miners were scheduled to play their regional rivals at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

“The Ghana Football Association would announce a new date in due course. Stakeholders are to take note and act accordingly,” reads a statement by the GFA Wednesday night.

This rather late decision by the GFA comes with no surprise due to a perceived tense security situation in Obuasi since Monday after the Disciplinary Committee released a ruling which demoted AshantiGold to Division Two football for match-fixing effective next season.

Aggrieved fans of the Miners have vented their frustration at current ownership, leaving many concerned that matters could escalate should the league fixture against Kotoko go on as scheduled.
