RTU leave it late in 3-2 thriller against Berekum Chelsea

Real Tamale United (RTU) netted deep into injury time to secure a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Berekum Chelsea in a pulsating 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 23 clash on Monday.

The Northern Blues – banished from their traditional Aliu Mahama Stadium grounds due to crowd troubles – had to host the game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Striker Issah Kuka opened the scoring for RTU in the 24th minute.

But just 4 minutes later, centre-back Henry Ansu levelled matters for the visitors.

It stayed 1-1 till halftime.

RTU restored the lead to 2-1 four minutes into the second half after Mohammed Sadat expertly converted a penalty awarded them.

Berekum Chelsea pegged back once more in the 68th minute through Emmanuel Sarpong.

Right on the 90, the Bibires had a glorious chance to nick an away victory via spot-kick but Kelvin Obeng missed.

The game seemed set for a 2-2 draw but Baba Kushibo emerged with the clincher for RTU deep into stoppage time – ending Berekum Chelsea’s match unbeaten run.

RTU stay 15th despite moving to 25 points from 23 matches. Berekum Chelsea are also in 10th position with 30 points and have played a game less.
