Legon Cities rise continues with 2-0 victory over AshantiGold

Legon Cities continued their steady rise up the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) table with a 2-0 triumph over AshantiGold Sunday afternoon.

The Royals – who have been in the bottom half of the league table almost all season – scored in either half of the match-day 23 fixture at El-Wak Stadium to continue their charge away from relegation troubles.

Striker Rahman Abdul opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the game.

It remained 1-0 for Legon Cities until the 80th minute when the hosts were handed a penalty after AshantiGold centre-back Frank Akoto handled the ball in the Miners’ penalty area.

Midfielder Michel Otou stepped up and converted the penalty to make it 2-0 and ensured the three points stayed with coach Maxwell Konadu’s men.

Legon Cities now go 8th and on 30 points and their gap to the drop zone is now stretched to 7 points. AshantiGold are in 13th position with 28 points.
