U-20 WWCQ: Princesses take control with big away win over Ethiopia

Ghana took command of their 2022 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup final round tie with an emphatic victory against Ethiopia Sunday afternoon.

The Black Princesses travelled to thrash their Ethiopian counterparts 3-0 in the first leg of the final round of the African qualifiers to the Costa Rica tournament at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa.

All goals came in the first half through a Salamatu Abdulai brace and another from Cecilia Nyame as coach Ben Fokuo’s first secured a crucial first-leg advantage.

Salamatu opened the scoring in the 29th minute from close range when she was set free in the middle of the box before converting calmly.

The forward then made it 2-0 in the 38th minute.

With a minute left to halftime, Nyame volleyed home from distance to put Ghana 3-0 up.

The second half failed to produce further goals.

The Black Princesses are just a step away from a sixth straight Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup appearance later in August and must complete it when they host the second leg in two weeks’ time.
