Palace drop Jordan Ayew from FA Cup squad amidst COVID reports

The striker could miss at least one, if not both, of Black Stars World Cup playoffs games against Nigeria.

  • Jordan Ayew is now a major doubt for Ghana’s crucial 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifying playoffs with Nigeria.
  • The striker has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Ayew was billed to be in action for Crystal Palace in their FA Cup quarterfinal game against Everton on Sunday.
  • But the 30-year-old has been left out of the match-day squad by manager Patrick Vieira following the unwelcome positive case.
  • Also, compatriot Jeffrey Schlupp – who will be free during the upcoming international break – did not make the Eagles squad due to suspension after picking up two bookings in the FA Cup this season.

  • Jordan Ayew – just like his other international mates playing for their respective clubs on Sunday – was expected to head straight to the Black Stars camp in Accra after the FA Cup game.
  • Ghana play Nigeria in Kumasi on March 25 and the reverse leg in Abuja four days later.
