#FootyTransfers: Sonia Opoku joins Trabzonspor from Ampem Darkoa

Ghana international, Sonia Opoku has secured a transfer to Turkish Women’s Super Lig side Trabzonspor.

The midfielder – who has featured for the Black Queens – just ended a 7-year stint with Ghana Women’s Premier League giants Ampem Darkoa Ladies to embark on her first European sojourn.

Opoku’s transfer was sealed on Monday, March 14.

Taking to her official Facebook handle Tuesday afternoon, the flamboyant midfielder published:

“I had the best teammates at Ampem Darkoa with whom I have shared many success stories.

“I would like to thank His Royal Highness Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour – CEO of Ampem Darkoa, Management, Technical Team, my colleagues and the ever-present fans.

“A big thank you to the people of Techiman who have been very supportive of my career.

“I am very grateful. Ampem Darkoa will forever have a place in my heart.

“Thank you!!

“It’s time to open a new chapter and I wish the club the very best of luck for the future.

“This is not a goodbye because our paths may cross again in the near future.”


Sonia Opoku becomes the latest African on the books of Trabzonspor who already boast of Cameroon trio Marie Laure Kong, Rose Bella and Doly Diane Wabeua Djiatio.
