Aduana exact revenge on King Faisal with 1-0 win in Kumasi

Aduana FC exacted revenge for their shock defeat to King Faisal in their first home game of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) with a hard-fought 1-0 match-day 19 victory at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

The two-time league champions got a rude start to the season in front of their home fans at the Dormaa as the Insha Allah boys thrashed them 3-1 back in November – a first in 5 years.

Heading to Kumasi, it was revenge time for Aduana and they got that, albeit partially as the solitary goal victory sees them trail when head-to-head is to be applied at any point in time.

Striker Bright Adjei scored the only goal of the game – his 12th of the campaign – after he was picked out by a brilliant Prince Acquah long pass from just before the halfway line. Staying onside, the Aduana captain beautifully controlled the ball with the chest and followed up with a lob over the onrushing King Faisal goalkeeper Frank Boateng.

Aduana found the net again late on in the first half through new signing Manan Mudasiru but he was cruelly denied a legitimate goal by the offside flag.

King Faisal created many chances in chase for the equalizer but were just not clinical on the day.

The hosts’ clearest chance came the way of Wadudu Yakubu just before the hour mark but Aduana defender Thomas Boateng made a decisive intervention by clearing the attacker’s goal-bound strike off the line.

At the other end, Aduana left-back Abass Mohammed came also saw his strike come off the crossbar in the 77th minute while Adjei missed an opportunity to go joint-top in the goal-king race by failing to score from close range moments later.

With the 1-0 win, Aduana now go 33 points; King Faisal have 29 from 19 matches.
