2022 WCQ: VAR call not to give Nigeria penalty against Ghana correct – NFF President

Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick has backed referee Redouane Jiyed’s decision of denying Nigeria a penalty against Ghana.

Baba Iddrisu, after a tussle with the Nigerian attackers in the Ghanaian 18-yard box fell to the grounds and touched the ball in the 77th minute.

Redouane Jiyed whistled for a penalty initially and overturned the decision after using the  Video Assistant Referee for review.

On the incident, NFF boss Amaju Pinnick commended the decision of the referee and said Iddrisu was pushed in the penalty box.

“I think that the referee was correct. The Nigerian player pushed Baba Iddrisu and that made him touch the ball.

“We have no problem with officiating. Its up to us now. We should and will win convincingly at home,” he said after the match.

Furthermore, Pinnick stressed that they were the better side on the night in Kumasi.

“Our team is the better team but we were unfortunate today. Football is Football,” he added.

The two sides played out a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in the first leg of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The return leg is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
