Sharks and Lions share spoils after late goals

Elmina Sharks failed to beat newly-promoted Accra Lions and had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Nduom Sports Stadium on match-day 18 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The relegation-threatened Sharks scored in the 85th minute through Ishmael Antwi but they conceded two minutes later via a header by centre-back Osuman Kasim.

Lying 18th on the league log, Sharks will have hoped to register their fourth win of the campaign but instead, they had their fourth draw.

Lions earned the point to move away from the relegation zone and are now 15th in the league log with 20 points, just one above Eleven Wonders.

The two teams were evenly matched in the first half and even the second half.

After finding the opener, supporters of the home team were shocked to see their side lose their lead just two minutes later.

With just few minutes to end the game, Frederick Asante pounced on a loose ball to score for Lions following a short goal-kick effected the Sharks goalkeeper. But the goal was overruled as the referee adjudged that the lanky striker was inside the opponent’s box when the kick was taken.

The game ended 1-1.

Accra Lions will host Great Olympics in their next clash while Sharks visit Dreams FC.
