Osman, Wayo on target as King Faisal sink relegation-threatened WAFA away

Front duo Osman Ibrahim and Mawuli Wayo set each other up for the goals as King Faisal stunned WAFA SC 2-1 away to open the second round of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Friday afternoon.

The match-day 18 fixture at Sogakope produced no goals in the opening half despite both sides creating some decent scoring chances.

The game, however, sprang into life just four minutes into the second half.

Mawuli Wayo – with his 9th assist – freed Osman into space and the on-loan Kotoko forward went on to open the scoring with his 6th of the campaign on a rebound after his initial shot came off goalkeeper Boliver Sarfo Owusu.

But the Academy Boys responded and found the equalizer through captain Konadu Yiadom in the 66th minute.

The centre-back – somewhat making amends for his role in the goal concession – met a Sampson Agyapong corner kick with a thumping header with was repelled by goalkeeper Frank Boateng but Konadu followed through with a rebound.

Three minutes from time, King Faisal sealed the win – their third on the road this season.

This time, it was Wayo who fed on an Osman pass to nick home his first goal league goal for the club from near post.

King Faisal now go 29 points after 18 matches while pushing struggling WAFA deeper into relegation trouble. The Academy Boys have now lost eight of their 18 league games, leaving them stuck in 16th position with 18 points.
