Legon Cities defeated King Faisal 1-0 at El-Wak Sports Stadium Monday afternoon to end the first half of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) on a positive note.
The Royals came close in the 22nd minute when Faisal goalkeeper was slow to react to a headed pass from captain Pius Baffour. Nimble winger Jonah Attuquaye raced to steal the ball from the shot-stopper but failed to score the opener. His hastily taken shot on target went into the outside of the post and back into play
The game sprang into life from then on – but Legon Cities looked the hungrier of the two as they kept searching for the opener into the second half.
On 62 minutes, Jonah Attuquaye registered the much-needed goal from close range – after Hans Kwofie picked a pass and charged down the box and cut back for the winger to notch his fourth of the campaign.
The solitary goal win sees Legon Cities move three places up to position 12 with 21 points while King Faisal finish the first round in 5th and on 26 points.
The start of the second round sees Legon Cities hosting Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 27. Two days prior, King Faisal would have played guests to WAFA SC at Sogakope.
