Hearts, Kotoko to battle again March 4 as President’s Cup returns

After a two-year hiatus, the annual President’s Cup has been confirmed for a Friday, March 4 return with Ghana’s two most glamorous clubs – Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko – penciled to battle out once more.

Organizers – the Ghana League Clubs Association (Ghalca) – sealed an agreement with both clubs for the ceremonial match on Tuesday – two days after their 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Super Clash stalemate.

The Accra Sports Stadium will host the game with kickoff at 6 pm.

The President’s Cup is played in honour of the first gentleman of Ghana hence confirmation of the presence of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to kick the first ball as well as award medals to the participating teams.

Before COVID happened, Asante Kotoko won the last edition of the President’s Cup by defeating arch-rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium in 2019. The Porcupine Warriors have won the trophy six times with the Phobians winning it four times.
