Karela United came from a goal down to hold Real Tamale United (RTU) to a 1-1 draw at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on match-day 15 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Heading into the game, the Pride of the North had won just one of their last five league games – out of which two had been played at home – the win, 2-0 against Bibiani GoldStars and a draw with Dreams FC earlier.
Karela’s approach seemed to be working perfectly throughout the first half but Iddrisu Gadafi broke their resolve with the opening goal in additional time to calm the nerves of the home fans.
Protecting the lead and having more of the ball was RTU’s prime strategy for the second half but Karela surged up front for their moments.
They finally picked their moment in the 75th minute when substitute Matthew Kelvin Andoh drew parity.
In the next 15 minutes, both sides traded attacking play but they failed to find a winner.
Karela United will be content with the result, heading into their next league clash at home to Legon Cities in hope of improving their 8th position on the league log. The draw is their fifth of the season.
For RTU, holding on to the first half lead could have given them their sixth victory of the league campaign. 11th-placed RTU will also play King Faisal in Kumasi.
