Kamal Sowah secures deadline day loan move to AZ Alkmaar

Ghana midfielder Kamal Sowah has joined AZ Alkmaar on loan until the end of the 2021/22 season from Club Brugge.

The Dutch Eredivisie side finalized the signing of the 22-year-old attacking midfielder before the January transfer window closed on Monday.

Sowah will wear the number 8 shirt for the Dutch side.

“I see AZ as the perfect step for me. The club made a good first impression and the ambition appeals to me,” he said after the signing of the deal.

Asked about his specific qualities, he stated: “I am an agile player and good on the ball. In addition, I am also a team player. I see myself as a winger, but I can play in several positions.”

In his youth, Sowah played for Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, where he impressed and joined Leicester City

in 2018. He was loaned to Oud-Heverlee Leuven the same year, playing there until last summer.

Club Brugge then signed him permanently from Leicester City last summer. He made 17 appearances this season, including five in the Uefa Champions League.
